Books can be sources of inspiration, advice, and direction that one needs to help add fuel to one's pursuit of goals and achievement. They can be the additional tool one uses to address limitations and/or obstacles getting in your way or simply a way to change your perspective to help move you further along any journey you may be on. When working on your nutrition and fitness aspirations, certain books can help provide information and tools that can assist you in overcoming setbacks or even provide a catalyst to boost you closer to your goals. So as a fellow book reader and as someone who has realised the value self-development can have, I have gained insight into some books that have personally helped me but also have become staples that I recommend to people wanting to leverage more from their nutrition. What recommendations do I have for you? In this blog post, I share 3 book recommendations I personally would recommend you read if you are someone looking to achieve some big goals in your health, nutrition, and fitness. These books address 3 different areas that can limit your potential when trying to reach your peak. Atomic HabitsIf there is ONE book you need to read to help you level up your results and create lasting change that is underpinned by kicking your goal’s butt more easily, it is this one right here. Atomic Habits is essentially your practical and theoretical “guidebook” into the power of habits and how small decisions and “bricks of action” can lead to big, lasting changes in your life. It is your tool in helping you establish the right habits, systems, and behaviours that will act as guardrails for you in helping you achieve your health, nutrition and lifestyle goals and sustain them. In my humble opinion, it is as close to required reading and curriculum as you will get when it comes to goal attainment, health and lifestyle improvement, and long-term sustainable change. This will likely be a new tool in your toolbox. The physical book is very accessible these days but you can also grab the audiobook if you want to level up on the go, I don’t care. Just go read it! Start With WhyI first read Start With Why as a self-development book when first starting my business and wanting to level up professionally - and honestly the book does read that way at the surface level. However, through reading it and reflecting on the material, it quickly became clear to me that the fundamental message of the book can and SHOULD be applied to nutrition and health goals too. I use the principles of Start With Why in my nutrition coaching now too, as a tool and fundamental piece of the goal puzzle for this reason. Honestly, this book is a must-read if you are someone who feels their goals do not inspire them or you feel like there is no purpose behind what you are trying to achieve. It will also help you create more robust, motivating goals that will drive you forward and keep your eye on the “prize” so to speak. After all, the underpinning message of the book is that all action needs to have a purpose behind it. So go read this book and see how much more driven you can become. The Mountain Is YouFinally, we have The Mountain Is You - a very personal book to me that I don’t hear about alot and is honestly not that well known compared to the first two. This book deals with self-exploration and coming to terms with and addressing the limitations keeping you from reaching your peak potential, the metaphorical mountain in your way. The Mountain Is You is essentially the self-help book that teaches you how to identify, dissect, and ultimately overcome self-sabotage in order to achieve personal growth. If you know that you have obstacles in your life that are getting in the way of you making health changes or making any changes that you need to make, then this book is a must-read. This book helped me at a time when I was feeling like I was mentally stuck between a rock and a hard place in regard to my own professional development and feeling a bit helpless in terms of the tools I had to use to help me overcome limiting beliefs and self-sabotage I suspected was holding me back. Be ready to make plenty of notes so have a sticky note pad next to you and do what I did and make the book look like a university textbook during exam block. RecapThere you go! Now you have 3 new books to add to your reading (or listening) list to help equip you with more tools to help make “dieting” easier or to assist you in overcoming specific obstacles that may be setting you back. Whether it be self-sabotage, lack of inspiration or vision, or simply having crappy habits and behavioural systems in place. Grab the physical copy or grab the audiobook (I use Audiobook and all 3 are on there), it doesn’t matter. Go level up your knowledge to level up your life. But before I leave you…. I have a couple of questions for you. Do you feel you need expert guidance when it comes to your fuelling, recovery, and nourishment?
