They say you have to spend money to make money. So, do you have to spend money to make… results? Is there a cost to achieving successful weight loss, building muscle effectively, or levelling up your performance? Yes and no. Technically, yes, there’s always a cost. Whether it’s time, effort, stress, or literal dollaridoos, you’re always “spending” something. The currency just changes. This brings us to the world of nutrition, fitness, and wellbeing. Hiring a professional can feel like a big expense in a world where the cost of living keeps climbing. But not focusing on your health is a major “expense” in itself which can become a bigger one in the long run. So, let’s balance the equation. It’s time to look at how working with a Dietitian isn’t just a cost… but actually an investment that can save you money. In this blog, I’m breaking down 4 ways a Dietitian can help you save money and hopefully make the decision to invest in your health and potentially hire a Dietitian in your own corner, feel that little bit easier. Reduce Unnecessary Supplement One of the biggest expenses, as far as nutrition goes, is very often the supplement stack one uses. The promise of everlasting and easy results, the allure of the sexiness of supplements, and the premium tacked on because it’s a “specialty item”...It all makes for one expensive endeavour. However, most supplements don’t work. A lot of them are not needed in your situation. 99% of them are just cherries atop the sundae. And 100% of them are expensive. So if you happen to be buying and taking an unnecessary or ineffective supplement, you are wasting money. This is where a Dietitian can save you some cash. By directing your efforts only to supplements that work and only when they are necessary. Too many people spend money they don’t need to for now change in their results. Supplements can be that when not done correctly. Improve Your Meal Planning and PrepWhere lies your biggest food expense in your life? Your Uber Eats, your takeaway, the foods you don’t prep yourself, right? A lack of meal planning and prepping knowledge, confidence, or drive (or often all 3), is a big reason your nutrition efforts are more expensive than they need to be or should be. Working with a Dietitian can help you gain and build the skills, knowledge, and equip the tools needed to take control over your diet again and get you hands on again with your nutrition. Meal prepping more, planning out your meals and snacks, and ensuring you stick to a plan that is flexible but effective… All can be achieved. And as a result your takeaway/fast food expenses will go down which will save you money. That stuff is expensive nowadays! Avoid Food Product and Diet Marketing TrapsCompanies want your eyes and pockets fixated on the latest trends and food products they have conjured up to convince you it’s the next best thing. However, most marketing ploys will leave your results neutral at best or set you back at worst. Not all foods being marketed as healthy are anything more than regular foods with a disguise to make them seem bigger/better/bolder and claim they can transform your results. This simply isn’t always true. In fact, a lot of them are no more than basic foods dressed up to look different and convince you to buy. When working with clients, I always separate food from marketing for them so that they make informed decisions on their food purchases. That is how a Dietitian can help you save money! By ensuring you don’t just spend money on foods that are marketed well and as a result have a higher price tag attached, for now good reason for many, might I add. In simple terms: Shop smart. A Dietitian can help you do so. Streamline Your Efforts For Quicker Goal AchievementGetting results and achieving your goals takes time. Often more than you expect. I also like to remind my clients that you will overestimate what you can achieve short term while underestimating what is possible and achievable long term. This disconnect means people search for quick fixes and as a result, keep running into obstacles that ironically then means they put themselves in a position where they take longer to get there and also spend more time and effort doing so. A Dietitian won’t necessarily shortcut your way to your goals (not in the classic sense of the word, or how you may be expecting), but they can fine-tune and dial in your strategy so that you streamline your efforts and don’t waste effort and money doing so. That is still a saving and ensures you build the habits and behaviours needed to sustain your results and be able to take control longer term rather than just temporarily in the short term. It’s bigger picture thinking. And working with a nutrition specialist can do that for you. Recapping It Up!At the end of the day, working with a Dietitian shouldn’t feel like just another bill to pay because the benefits of taking control of your health and wellbeing can pay you back many times over. And as we discussed above, there are ways it can literally save you money. When you have expert guidance, you’re less likely to waste money on fad diets, unnecessary supplements, or trendy products that do nothing for you. You’re also more likely to see results that stick which ultimately means less time and money thrown at “quick fixes” that fail you again and again (getting you stuck on the hamster wheel of dieting as I like to say). So if you’re ready to stop guessing, start “saving”, and actually get results that last…let’s talk and see what we can do together. Ready To Take Things Up A Notch?
