Sports Performance!

However, performance has many faces. Performance is important for various reasons and it does not only involve athletes.

You need to start looking at performance beyond a single lens and look at the bigger picture. Embracing performance in its various forms is a great way to become the best version of yourself. 

In this blog post, I deep dive into what performance looks like and how you should start looking at and leveraging nutrition for the different types of performance that can help you reach your peak.

Sports Performance

This is the type of performance most (if not all) people think of when they hear the word “performance”. 

Sports performance nutrition is the art of fuelling an athlete to become the best performer in competition. If you identify as an athlete, then you are likely focusing on this already.

However, performance goes beyond sport, so becoming the best version of yourself requires you to also focus on other types of performance which the rest of this list will help you with.

Gym Performance

Moving on from sports performance, we have the similar but different….gym (or training) performance. 

This is looking at how one performs when they are training for fitness, strength, functionality, and confidence. Most people who go to the gym (whatever that may be for you - weights, crossfit, pilates, functional training), are keen on improving and progressing.

From lifting heavier, lifting better, and seeing changes in their body…gym performance comes down to become the best version of yourself when training and seeing the progress you desire.

It's about adding more depth to your training. Adding more meaning. More importance. Having that training outlet that drives you forward rather then get you stuck in routine for the sake of ticking off a box.

Work Performance

So many of us are focussed on our careers and progressing, yet so many do not think about work performance as a metric to work on. 

Nutrition impacts your work! From affecting your health and productivity to impacting your concentration and mental acuity. 

Performance nutrition can be tailored and leveraged to boost your performance in the workplace and advance your career or simply make work easier. 

Look beyond the physical and the sporting world and consider thinking about how having the right nutrition strategy can help you become the best version of your at work. 

Life Performance

In my opinion, this is the face of performance that every single person should be focussed on. Athlete and non-athlete alike. 

Life performance encompasses everything from:
  • Being the best parent for your kid and keeping up with them
  • Being able to spend quality time with family and friends
  • Having consistent energy to live your life
  • Being able to travel better and see the places you want to see
  • Feeling like your happiest and most confident self
  • Managing your mental health 
  • Having enough energy and desire to keep up with hobbies
  • Focusing on your health and being able to make the best decisions
  • Good daily decision making across all aspects of life
  • Winning at the game of life (whatever that may be or look like for you personally)

Looking beyond sport. Looking beyond the workplace. You need to be focussing on performing as a person and being the ideal version of yourself that you want to be.

It’s about doing life better. Fuelling yourself to live happier. Using nutrition to perform day in, day out.
