3 Low Calorie Dessert Alternatives (For More Effective Fat Loss) | Dietitian Approved Snack Ideas5/10/2023 When you are trying to lose weight, keeping your calories in check and in a calorie deficit is a fundamental necessity. So what is one to do when they want some dessert or to have a more indulgent snack? Well, all foods can fit but I understand the desire to have options that don’t break the budget (calorie budget that is) to alternate with so that you are not always eating the super high-calorie options. In today’s blog post, I share 3 low-calorie dessert alternatives to help you control calories more easily and reach your fat-loss goals with fewer restrictions. Disclaimer: I am by no means endorsed/sponsored by any of the brands mentioned in this blog post - they are simply my recommendations as a fellow consumer / Dietitian. Low Calorie Dessert #1: Wicked Sisters Protein PuddingThis protein pudding range is a relatively recent addition to the supermarket snack menu but has left a positive mark. There are a few flavours you can get (including classic chocolate) but my favourite is the banana, too be honest. A couple of the flavours are even average so you will need to try and see which you like most. All in all, protein pudding works so well because it maintains the texture of the classic dessert while making it more “healthy-fied” by removing calories and adding protein. Solid choice all around and worth a taste test. How Much Calories: 1 tub gives you 160-170 calories and also 15g of protein (2 wins). Low Calorie Dessert #2: Skinny Cow Ice-cream CupsWho likes ice-cream? There is a good choice you said YEP in your mind just then. So you would be someone who wants a low calorie option for the classic dessert choice of many a household. While there are various solid options on the market, today I am recommending the Skinny Cow Ice-cream cups because they are not only low calorie but are also individually poritoned which makes overall calorie control easier AND it helps build good habits too. How Much Calories: 1 cup serve of the Skinny Cow ice-cream provides only 111 calories. Low Calorie Dessert #3: Chobani Yoghurt FlipsIf you know me, then you will know how much of a fan of Chobani yoghurt I am. So it comes with no surprise that I also like their “dessert-esque” option too - the Chobani Flip range. They call them flips because of the way you flip the extra flavour compartment into the yoghurt base. My personal fave flavour here is the Lime Crumble but there are so many options to choose from so go have some fun and find your new dessert alternative. The reason I like this one is because of the flavour diversity, the low calorie impact, and importantly the protein hit it provides. How Much Calories: 1 Chobani Flip gives you roughly 170 calories and 10g of protein awesomeness. RecapThere you go! Now you have 3 new menu items to choose from when it comes to dessert. All 3 are lower in calories than your typical dessert or sweet snack and 2 of them are packed with protein to help you hit your macro goals too. However, remember that just because low calorie alternatives exist, does not mean that you should feel guilty for wanting (and then enjjoying) the classic desserts that are of that higher calorie nature. Work on that balancing act. Address your calories. Embrace the flexible nutrition life. So which will you try first? Let me know in the comment section below.
