Journey has always told us to “don’t not stop believing”… But when it comes to the fat loss and nutrition journey…it is time to STOP believing these 4 nutrition myths. There is no room for B.S. when it comes to your lifestyle. It will either set you back and slow you down or lead you down the wrong path. Let a Dietitian help separate truth from myth so you have more clarity on how real nutrition looks. In this blog post, I share 4 common nutrition myths that you should stop giving your time and attention in 2024. Myth #1: Carbs are bad for youIf I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times! Carbs are NOT bad for you. It’s about the bigger picture of your nutrition. One single macronutrient is neither good nor bad. It’s a piece of the puzzle. It is about how you do your carb game and how it fits the whole puzzle, that truly matters. Oh, and carbs don’t cause fat gain in of themselves and insulin is not something you need to worry about unless you are a diabetic. I said what I said. Moving on. Myth #2: You NEED supplements to succeedSupplements are SUPPLEMENTARY! It is in the name folks. It is there to supplement the foundational diet. Food first always. Stop thinking supps will make or break your results and your nutrition. They don’t have that power. The biggest power they have is in the “money disposal” which for most people is what happens because they choose the wrong supplement and/or for the wrong reason. Supplements have their place and can help level you up but not before your food game is addressed and working like a true nutrition system tailored to your needs and goals. Myth #3: Fat loss progress is linearFor some reason, so many people expect fat loss to follow a linear change pattern. This is not how it works. This is not how physiology operates. I wish I could help people achieve linear change without hiccup but that is not realistic. We do not live in an imaginary world where the body is a simple system. And look….that is fine! There is no issue with your weight fluctuating as long as overall your fat loss trend is going down. Look at the trend. The trajectory. This is why you do not use single weigh in results as gospel for the truth of your fat loss progress and ultimate success. Myth #4: There are universal rules when it comes to “dieting”There is no one universal rule that applies to everyone when it comes to the diet game. In fact, no rules or advice is ever a universal truth as everyone is different and nutrition is so nuanced. This is why individualisation is such a big part of this picture and why I stress the importance of tailoring your nutrition and not following cookie cutter programs and the like. This is the benefit of working with your very own Dietitian, Nutrition, and Nutrition Coach. So this year, please stop looking at diet advice and proclamations online and in magazines and thinking that it applies to everyone and that it is an undeniable universal truth. Because it is not. What works for you, won’t for another. What works and is relevant to another, shouldn’t not be automatically done by you. Context matters. The end. RecapSo there you go! You now know about 4 stupid nutrition myths that just need to leave and not ever show up around here again. You owe it to yourself to not waste bandwidth on following or believing in false nutrition statements and advice because it will only slow down your true progress. So go on in your journey and DO stop believing in these misconceptions and watch your nutrition level up as a result. But before I leave you…. I have a couple of questions for you.
